In the late 1950's two young entrepreneurs, Warren Cozzens and Mike Cudahy decided to start Cozzens & Cudahy Incorporated, an electronics manufacturers representative firm specializing in test equipment sales. With contracts from several start-up companies like John Fluke Manufacturing and Teradyne in hand they grew their business. They evolved over the years to cover a territory of 13 states in the Midwest with 7 office locations. Mike Cudahy, an electrical engineer and tinkerer, designed and built an electrocardiogram in his garage using some instruments he sold and his ingenuity. After selling his homemade electrocardiogram to a hospital, it became evident that there was a large market for the product so he formed Marquette Electronics to address that need. Warren Cozzens, his partner in the rep firm as well as in Marquette Electronics, stayed behind to run the rep firm during Marquette's infancy. As Marquette Electronics grew (sales are over $250 Million today), Warren sold the rep firm to his five top salesmen. The rep firm always prospering, found a number of its principals reaching a point in their growth where they wanted to have their own direct sales force. John Fluke Manufacturing took the unique option of purchasing the key representative firms in the country - Cozzens & Cudahy was one such firm and in 1976 finalized the buyout. Noel Kindt and Jack Bowser, two former Cozzens & Cudahy partners decided to start a new rep company calling it Dytec/Central. At the same time, two other Dytec companies were formed, Dytec/North (now Dytec Instruments) and Dytec/South (now Dynamic Technology Inc., DTI). These three rep firms covered the entire territory previously covered by Cozzens & Cudahy. The individual Dytecs continued to enjoy success over the years and remain in existence today. In 1988 Jim Okon, of Dytec/Central and previously Cozzens & Cudahy, headed a leveraged buyout of the Dytec/Central test and measurement group, taking the instrumentation salesmen with him. The newly created company was incorporated under the name of Dytec/Midwest. In 1992, Dytec/Midwest moved its corporate headquarters to a new larger in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In 2005, Dytec/Midwest, Inc. moved to Rolling Meadows, IL. In addition, Dytec/Midwest has three satellite offices located in Brookfield, WI and Indianapolis, IN and in the summer of 2002, Jim opened up the office in Savage, MN as well! |
